A floating sauna? I have questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Your comfiest bathing suit (bathing suits are required).

    • Sandals, slides or flip flops for getting around.

    • A reusable water bottle (anything but glass).

    • Government issued ID

    • Two nice, cozy towels. (If you prefer to rent our towels, please indicate this when you book).

  • These ain’t your grandma’s bathrobes. Our gorgeous sherpa-lined dry robes from Dry Peaks come all the way from the west coast where surfers use them to change in and out of their wetsuits. They fit Small-2XL and are included with all bookings, except for express sauna bookings.

  • Floathaus lives at the beautiful Muskoka Wharf. Technically our address is “D Dock.” We ask guests to check in at Muskoka Mind + Body to get changed and orientated. The address is 125 Steamship Bay Road, Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1Z9.

Our entrance is on the side of the building that faces the water.

  • There is free public parking in the lot beside Muskoka Mind + Body

  • Floathaus is a social sauna, feel free to chat quietly with friends or folks around you. (Or don’t. We have a deep respect for introverts around here).

  • Reservations are highly recommended. We cannot guarantee walk-in bookings. (Though, if you’re in town, you’re welcome to send us a message, we will always try to see what’s possible!)

  • They sure are! Click HERE to give the gift of glow.

  • Promotions will be posted to the website as they come up! Tuesdays are $20 OFF all private bookings. Check them out on the bookings page.

  • Floathaus is completely off-grid, so our cold experience flows with the seasons. Here are some examples of what to expect:

Spring: A swim ladder down the center of the dock for cold dipping and cold plunging.

Summer: A swim ladder down the center of the dock. It may not be true “cold plunge” temperatures, but it’s perfect for a rinse and refresh post sauna.

Autumn: A swim ladder down the center of the dock for cold dipping and cold plunging.

Winter: A swim ladder through a hole in the ice, you brave soul. Note: During some parts of winter, the weather will be too cold for the plunge. Enjoy the burst of cold outdoor air, give yourself a snow shower, or, if you really gotta have that cold water, you’re welcome to bring a bucket of cold water out from the studio.

If you have questions about what to expect each season, feel free to send us a message! We can’t perfectly predict mother nature, but we will give you all the info we know. Also, please note: there is NO swimming at the Muskoka Wharf. We have to keep all “dips” and cold plunges internal to our dock structure.

  • The Floathaus sauna lives on a specialized dock that was custom built to freeze into the ice, so we can stay in the water all year round. (Shoutout to our friends at Nydock for building the Floathaus foundation and for the dope drone footage!)

  • There is a bathroom available at Muskoka Mind + Body for Floathaus guests. Please note we do not have showers. Floathaus is completely off-grid, so the running water is a DIY situation.

We do have buckets and ladles for you to give yourself a rinse if you like.

  • We advise anyone who is pregnant or has an existing medical condition to seek advice from their medical practitioner about the safety of sauna and cold before booking.

  • Floathaus is a fixed structure that permanently lives at the Muskoka Wharf. “D Dock” is our home.

  • Outside food and drinks (other than non-glass water bottles) are not permitted. Tea, water, kombucha and Cacao Boys chocolate are available for purchase at the Muskoka Mind + Body relaxation room. Please note: Floathaus is a sober experience. There are no alcohol or drugs permitted on the premises.

  • We understand that plans change. Our updated policy ensures flexibility while maintaining fairness:

    • 48+ Hours Before Session: Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance will receive a full refund to the original payment method.

    • Unfortunately, no refunds or reschedules will be possible for cancellations made within 48 hours of a session.

  • The heat from the sauna may damage cell phone components. Please don’t bring your phone into the sauna. If you’ve booked a private Floathaus experience, feel free to use your phone as much (or little) as you like on the dock. (We couldn’t resist the urge to snap a pic for the ‘gram either).

If you’ve booked a shared community experience and you’d like to use your phone, please be respectful, and do not photograph or video other guests.

  • The studio is equipped with two open changerooms and a private bathroom (no lockers). Please do not leave any valuables in the changerooms. These rooms are supervised, but we cannot be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings.

  • Great question. We’re obsessed with all things Ghurst, and we’ve put together our favorites in the Things to do in Muskoka Blog. Check it out to find great treats, eats and trails.

  • There are inherent risks with use of saunas, floating docks and cold plunging. We recommend that you do your own research to understand the risks and assess your comfort level with each of these activities. If you have questions about what to expect, feel free to send us a message! All guests are required to sign a waiver prior to participating in the Floathaus experience.

  • We do! If you’re interested in collaborating, feel free to send us an email with your handle and interest at hello@floathaus.ca

  • The Floathaus sauna is a lil cutie. We wouldn’t blame you for wanting one of your very own. That’s why we’ve partnered up with our friends at the Muskoka Sauna Co. If you’re shopping for a sauna, make sure to let them know we sent you!
